The LSU Tigers, with a lot of help from Brandon Harris got things done against WKU to come away with a 42-20 win.
The Tigers wasted little time to get on the board with Harris throwing a bomb to Malachi Dupre for 55 yards.
The Hilltoppers knotted things up early in the second quarter with Brandon Doughty connecting with Anthony Wales from seven yards out.
LSU was able to break that tie in the closing minutes of the first half by marching down the field and capping off the drive with a two-yard run by Darrell Williams to go up 14-7 heading into the locker room. The Tigers followed that up on their first drive of the second half with a 34-yard field goal by last week’s hero Trent Domingue.
Doughty continued to find success through the air when he connected with Antwane Grant for a 39-yard score to make it 17-13 after a missed PAT. Domingue helped the Tigers caused with another field goal going through the uprights, this time a 43-yarder
LSU was the beneficiary of a pair of turnovers in the second half that helped put the game out of reach of the Hilltoppers. On the kickoff following the Domingue field goal, the Nick Brossette recovered a fumble that put the ball at the Western Kentucky 24 yard line and scored off of a 1 yard run by Leonard Fournette.
Brandon Doughty got the Hilltoppers into LSU territory on the following drive but were unable to score when he was intercepted by Jamal Adams. Harris gave the Tigers what would be the dagger in the Hilltoppers hopes of an upset with a 61-yard pass to true freshman Tyron Johnson.
LSU (7-0, 4-0 SEC) have a week off before traveling to Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide (7-1, 3-1 SEC) on November 7th with kickoff still to be determined.
