In his fourth season at McNeese, Cooper Hext has been named to the Preseason All-Southland Conference team.

“It’s a great honor for Cooper and he certainly deserves the recognition,” praised head coach Justin Hill.

Hext, a senior from DeQuincy, was named to the All-Defensive team a year ago while hitting .291 behind the plate. He is the highest returning batting average from a year ago.

Hext only missed one game last season, starting all of the other 57 he was available for. 25 of his 65 were for extra bases with 11 doubles, six triples, and eight home runs. He had nearly a run per game last year with 51 and drove in 41 runs.

As a defensive anchor, Hext had 85 putouts with a .978 fielding percentage. The Cowboys were picked to finish fifth in the preseason conference polls.

“As far as the polls go, that’s where we are perceived at this moment and that’s fine” said Hill.

McNeese opens their 2024 season on Friday, February 16 against Texas A&M in College Station.
