Outside of knowing he coached at VCU, admittedly I didn’t know much about Will Wade. He certainly talked a good game when he took over the reigns as Head Coach of the LSU Tigers Basketball Team.
Any dramatic change appeared to be coming in the 2018-2019 season with a tremendous recruiting class featuring big man Naz Reid (his name sounds like a comic book super hero or wrestling heel). Nothing wrong with a little patience, but still hoping to see much more effort and desire, regardless of the talent on the floor for this season.
That theory has been blown up. Led by freshman point guard Tremont Waters, the Tigers have a won back to back SEC road games (A & M/Arkansas). They’ve already matched their SEC win total (2) from last season and surpassed their season total wins (10), knocking off the Razorbacks in Bud Walton Arena, 78-51 for their 11th win this season.
I know there is a long way to go, but this team has flipped the script (sorry Ben & Shea). Instead of experiencing a season of growth, the Tigers have lifted expectations to where they should be dancing in the NCAA Tournament. If that happens, LSU Basketball will be the surprise team in the entire nation.
Yet, I can’t wait until next season, although the Tigers are showing us, nothing wrong with a little patience.
