Peak College Football in 2018 is the national media claiming that Ed Orgeron is on the hot seat if he does not beat Miami this Sunday. It is absurd to put a college football coach on the hot seat before he even gets a full cycle of recruits onto the field, but that is happening more and more because of the increased pressure to win. Look at Texas A&M, they paid Jimbo Fisher all of the money in the world to replace a guy in Kevin Sumlin who won 8 games all the time and recruited like a fiend. It is never enough in college football though. Ed Orgeron knows this, so he will just punch himself in the face a couple times Sunday afternoon before he goes to work.
The goal for LSU is not a National Championship this season. Delusional boosters and fans need to get that through their thick skulls. If your standard this season for Ed Orgeron is 11 wins with one of those being over Alabama then you are hurting the program you root for more than you are helping it. Ed Orgeron is 15-6 since he took over in Baton Rouge and he has the program on track when it comes to top notch recruits taking the field, just not in 2018. Not to say that this season doesn’t feature some amazing talents on offense and defense, but Ed Orgeron should be judged for year three and a half instead of year two and a half.
I know Coach O likes to punch himself in the face, pound Monster Energy Drinks, and immerse himself into defensive line drills; but I think in order for his tenure to not be cut short at LSU, he needs to do something in order to manifest success. The pitchforks are always at arms reach in Baton Rouge, so Orgeron needs to block the noise and focus on a few key things that will help him get to 2019. It has been said that a great tool for accomplishing goals is a “vision board” or “dream board.” A book called The Secret came out around a decade ago and it encouraged people to make collages featuriung pictures that represent a vision of your own future. The thought is that If you put your actual goals and aspirations in a tangible form where you can see it in the real world, then those goals and aspirations will come true. New Age hippie B.S. or the Power of Positivity? You be the judge, but I say it can’t hurt in Ed Orgeron’s case.
So in order for Ed Orgeron to reach his goals this season, here is a recommendation for connecting a vision and displaying a vision he can see clearly each and every day he goes to work this season. If you are a Coach O fan and want him to succeed too, then you can make a Coach O vision board too. All you need is a poster board, some scissors, and glue. Then you will take photos of 5-star recruits Kardell Thomas and Derek Stingley and slap those on their. Coach O needs his ‘croots. You will need a picture of Joe Alleva sitting at his desk, because if Alleva isn’t there next year, neither is Orgeron. Also add a picture of The Rock, because nobody is more successful and cooler that the People’s Champ. Lastly on the Coach O vision board, you want big picture of the scoreboard at Bryant-Denny Stadium mocked up to say “LSU 21 – Alabama 0.” You wil need Photoshop for this, but that is the ultimate goal for next season. If Ed Orgeron puts these visions in front of him where he can see them everyday, the Universe will do it’s thing, and Orgeron will remain the Tigers’ coach going into next season, because for Coach O, that is the only true goal this season.
