The build to College Football season here at 103.7 The Game has been as exciting and as entertaining as the build up to some of the biggest events I can remember in my lifetime. The hype has been as palpable as it was for the Money Fight. The insane stories have been as fun to talk about as the finale to The Sopranos. The scandals and controversies have even been as salacious as Janet and Justin’s Super Bowl Halftime Show and the season has not even started yet! Needless to say it was a hell of a ride getting here.
Now we have arrived at the start of the College Football season and I am only pretty sure I cannot take the build up anymore. It’s about damn time we have games to cover, predict, analyze, and scream about! Around these parts, we have been talking and talking about what Matt Canada’s LSU offense would look like and what kind of quarterback Jordan Davis will be for the Cajuns for what seems like an eternity. Now finally we get to quit pondering and actually witness all of the questions we have been asking for months get answered.
Before the kickoff of the 2017 LSU and Ragin’ Cajuns football season though, everyone has to get their official predictions in for the record. As a humble sports talk entertainer, I would be remiss if I did not give you may official predictions so you can later call back to the show and tell me what a dummy (yeah!) I was for my prediction. This is the contract between host and listener. I put it out there for you to think and scrutinize and if I am ever wrong, you get to vent and call me names. I signed up for this because I dare to be great just like Conor McGregor. So here goes nothin’!
The 2017 Ragin’ Cajuns come into this season after Mark Hudspeth’s first loss ever at the Superdome in a New Orleans Bowl. Sidenote: Why is it not called the “Bourbon Bowl”? Louisiana has a new QB in Jordan Davis who possesses athleticism to spare but big questions about accuracy and poise. The Cajuns defense is highly underrated and could possibly be the 2nd or 3rd best in their conference behind Appalachian State. It is a blind bet since Jordan Davis will determine just how successful this team is but I am willing to bet on the young man and go out on a limb because this defense is so capable. So when you ask me, “how’s it gonna be” for the Cajuns in 2017, I say Hudspeth and the gang go 7-5 and bowl once more.
Now, what is left to hype and be said about the LSU Tigers in 2017? The stage is set. A new regime with wizards for coordinators has pieces to utilize like a Heisman candidate at running back and 5 star super athletes as pass rushers. The schedule is the toughest in the country. The stakes are the highest in the country. I am an eternal optimist but with a quarterback who is average at best, it is too hard to predict anything but an average season. Average for LSU that is. How’s it gonna be for the Tigers in 2017 you ask? 10-2 with an appearance in one of the New Year’s 6 Bowl Games.
I could be wrong. I could be right. But I am letting you know my vision for College Football 2017 because I owe you that much for your company on this long journey back to football. Enjoy yourself!
