Just when you thought the Saints off season couldn’t get any more interesting! Just when you thought the wide eyed dreamer Sean Payton and Mathematical Ninja Mickey Loomis were going to settle down before the NFL Draft! The rumors and sports talk surrounding the Saints gets even more insane!
Ian Rappaport of NFL Network tweeted that Sean Payton had breakfast with Johnny Manziel during Super Bowl week and they talked about Johnny Football getting back into the league. A breakfast is one thing, but now, over a month since that meal, Rappaport and other NFL rumor swirlers are pumping up how “this makes sense” and “it could be a perfect fit.” Johnny Manziel in New Orleans? That all depends who’s fit you are talking about.
If you are talking about Johnny Football playing in the city of New Orleans, well then that is the perfect fit if you are hoping Johnny Manziel relapses. If you are talking about Johnny Manziel and the Saints being a perfect fit, well then maybe it makes sense if you do not consider that Manziel is a reckless party animal who has never shown the maturity of say, Drew Brees for instance. If you think about that part of it; Brees, the quintessential NFL good guy taking this troubled but talented young quarterback under his wing, well then yes that does make sense and it is kind of a perfect fit.
That is all hypothetical and is nice to think about on paper though. That is in now way, shape or form a guaranteed perfect fit. If you want to know who this would really be a perfect fit for, then look no further than right here! The sports media! This would be a match made in hell! This would be nonstop Johnny Football jokes and Johnny Football hot takes and Johnny Football advice on the radio and in the newspapers all season long! A Saints fan is rooting against the this with every fiber of their being. But the idea of Johnny Manziel joining the Saints seems like a gift from God to me. Whether or not it pans out for the Saints is inconsequential. He resurrects his career; terrific! Good story. He keeps on partying and making an ass out of himself, wonderful!
