In life, they say it’s all about the journey, not the destination. The end of it all might only have you shrugging your shoulders with the only words coming to mind being “meh.” Just because it ends with a whimper and a dash of disappointment, does not mean it was all for nothing. Sure epic rides, battles, and stories are better with epic climaxes; but not everything finishes like an M. Night Shyamalan movie. The twists and turns are usually happening on the way to the end and those are the most interesting parts. This is why Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor is the “Money Fight.”
The end of this journey of hype and spectacle is most likely (some would say most definitely) going to have an anticlimactic finish. Floyd will pitter-patter his way to a decision victory and we will all be left wondering if this was all worth $100. If that happens, let me tell you right now before you even ask yourselves that question; it was worth it. If you spend your $100 for the high definition portion of this pay per view event thinking it is an investment in a great fight you will remember for years then you know not what your money is going towards. Even though there is a (albeit) slim chance this is a memorable contest, your money is not an investment. When you give your local cable operator $99.95 for Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor, you are not investing in anything, you are saying “thank you.”
Your payment will be a “thank you” to the Showtime network for providing you unprecedented events leading up to the fight that grabbed the attention of the entire world with their extremely loose formats and extremely uncensored stars. The extra 100 bucks on your cable bill for the month of August will be a “thank you” to Conor McGregor for getting you so riled up and keeping you so entertained for over a year on Twitter, TMZ, and any time he was on television promoting the fight. You will be saying “thank you” to Floyd “Money” Mayweather for having the business acumen and wherewithal to save a global institution like the sport of Boxing with a grand promotion such as The Money Fight. The journey to August 26th is what you are paying for and the beauty of it all is you get all the good stuff for free! The payment is optional. Think of it like a tip for great service. You don’t have to pay for the fight, but if you took part in the hype leading up to it, you lack common courtesy if you do not show your gratitude.
So on August 26th, when the Money Fight actually happens, remember that nobody is asking you to invest your time or money in anything. It is just an opportunity for you to show your appreciation to all of the people involved in putting on the most cutting edge promotional event in history. In fact, I think you should probably also include a hand written note when you send your $100 in for the pay per view. It would just be the right thing to do
