It was a dream come true for Germany’s Stephan Jaegar.
Playing on the PGA Tour for the third year, Jaegar captured his first TOUR win, winning the Texas Children’s Houston Open with a 12-under performance.
He outlasted Tony Finau, Taylor Moore, Alejandro Tosti, and World No. 1 Socttie Scheffler, who would’ve forced a playoff had he made his five-foot birdie putt on 18.
“I couldn’t have thought, dreamed up a better week to do it,” Jaeger said Sunday after his win. “Obviously playing (with) Scottie (Scheffler) the last couple days, he’s been on a tear, so to kind of slay the dragon a little bit this week was amazing. He’s such a good dude, such a good player; I was just happy to play with him a couple days.”
With the win, Jaegar is exempt until 2026 and will now head to Augsta National to play in his first Masters in two weeks.
This victory was monumental for Jaegar, who has hit many low points in his golfing career. When he was playing on the Korn Ferry Tour, he lost his PGA Tour card twice before finally overcoming and earning Player of the Year in 2021 to jump to the top tour.
Scheffler finished tied for second with Tosti, Moore, Finau, and Thomas Detry at 11-under after starting the day in a five-way tie for the lead.
