LAFAYETTE – Neither defensive back Jeryl Brazil nor defensive end Remaine Douglas will be returning to the Louisiana-Lafayette football team next season, coach Mark Hudspeth confirmed Thursday.
“I have met with both Jeryl and Remaine and informed them that we are going in a different direction,” Hudspeth said. “I want to wish them well in their future endeavors.”
Brazil, who was also dismissed from the LSU football program after multiple run ins with the law, was suspended for the final two games of the season for what Hudspeth termed a “violation of team rules.”
In his lone season with the Cajuns, he showed glimpses of his ability, most notably with a 100-yard kick return against Texas State.
But he also struggled to crack the lineup on the defensive side of the ball. Thought to be a potential starter at cornerback before the team reported for fall camp, Brazil quickly fell out of favor and did not play much in the second half of the season.
He finished his Cajuns career with four tackles and one quarterback hurry.
Douglas was also slated to play a big role with the Cajuns this season, but it never materialized. He finished the season with 13 tackles and one sack in 12 games.
