Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Kenny Stabler has passed away after a battle with colon cancer at the age of 69.
Stabler played for the Alabama Crimson Tide under legendary Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant from 1964-1967 going 28-3-2 as a starter having 2,196 yards passing and 838 yards rushing in his college career.
After college, Stabler was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in 1968 in the second round, but didn’t play for the team until 1970 and stayed with the team until 1979.
Stabler was then traded to the Houston Oilers prior to the start of the 1980 season and was with the team for two years before signing with the Saints for three years, retiring in 1984.
Following retirement, Stabler worked as a color commentator until the 2008 season.
“We announce with great sadness that our father, Ken Stabler, passed away Wednesday, July 8 as a result of complications associated with colon cancer,” Stabler’s family said in a statement.
