After a big win against Pennsylvania on Saturday, the Lafayette All-Stars had their eyes set on extending their stay in Williamsport, Pa. when the squad took the diamond on Monday afternoon.

Lafayette couldn’t pull off another win, losing 8-2 to Ohio, and was eliminated from the Little League World Series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Ohio went up early as Levi Smith was brought home off a Cooper Clay ground out in the first inning. Lafayette responded in the first as Landyn Craft scored off a Cooper Hawkins ground out.

In the second inning, Lafayette’s pitchers combined for three walks and hit a batter. Ohio tacked on two more runs in the inning and built up a 3-1 lead heading to the bottom of the second.

Lafayette cut the lead down to a single run after Sawyer Watkins scored on a wild pitch.

Neither team scored any runs in the third but Ohio put up five runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Chance Retherford scored first on a wild pitch, JJ Vogel later hit a three-run home run over the center field wall. Chase Moak’s double brought home Cooper Clay for the final run of the inning.

Lafayette only managed to get one more base hit the rest of the way, as Ohio’s Kaleb Harden struck out three batters and walked none in the final three innings of play.

BIG NUMBER: 5

Ohio scored five runs in the fourth inning and made the deficit too much for the Lafayette All-Stars to overcome.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: JJ VOGEL

Vogel led the way for Ohio with four RBI’s and a three-run home run in the victory.
