Louisiana Crushed by Coastal Carolina in Series Finale

Posted by clintdomingue on May 6, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (28-21, 14-10 Sun Belt) just couldn’t keep up with Coastal Carolina’s (32-16, 18-6 Sun Belt) offense. After allowing just two runs in the first two ballgames, the Chanticleers exploded for 10 runs off of 12 hits en route to a 10-3 loss for the Cajuns.

How It Happened

Coastal Carolina wasted very little time getting on the board with a two-run single out to right field by Lee Sponseller gave them the early 2-0 advantage. Hunter Kasuls responded in the bottom frame with a one-out RBI single through the left side, making it a 2-1 ballgame.

That’s as close as the Cajuns got though, as Seth Lancaster got two more runs across with a double out to left field in the second, making it 4-1. Zach Biermann busted it open in the fourth with a three-run blast out to right field to push their lead to six runs.

The door was officially slammed shut in the eighth with a pair of runs coming across courtesy of a sac fly out to center field by Woodall and an RBI single by Biermann.

Jack Burk dropped to 3-5 on the season allowing four runs off of six hits, walked one, and struck out two in one and a third innings of work.

Big Number: 10

The Cajuns may have gotten 10 hits in the series finale, but they were victims of 10 strikeouts on the evening, three of which were by Kole McKinnon. It wasn’t the best day in the world for the Cajuns at the plate.

Player of the Game: Hunter Kasuls

Even with the Cajuns having a bad day getting runs across, with two of his three hits resulting in a run scoring. Kasuls may have had the best overall performance this weekend for the team.

Next Up: Texas State; First Pitch Friday 6 PM
