The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (4-7) didn’t need a whole lot of offense to come away with a win, but thanks to a solid performance from Brock Batty on the way to a 3-1 win over Nicholls State (7-6).
How It Happened:
It was a defensive battle throughout Tuesday night’s matchup against the Colonels, but the Cajuns broke the stalemate in the top of the sixth when Handsome Monica drilled one out to right field to take the early lead. Nicholls State responded in the bottom frame when Ethan Valdez successfully laid down a bunt to get Davison across home plate.
The score remained knotted at one run apiece until the top of the eighth when Sebastian Toro hit a two-run single to right center field to give the Cajuns a 3-1 advantage. After that, Michael Leaumont finished the job by striking out the side in the ninth to earn his first save of the season.
Big Number: 14
The Cajuns pitching staff had one heck of a Wednesday night, racking up 15 strikeouts on the evening. An impressive showing from a staff that is starting to look like a solid group of guys in the last few ballgames.
Player of the Game: Brock Batty
Batty looked good in a win on Tuesday night, allowing three hits, walked two, and struck out five on the way to earning his first win of the young season.
