One of the biggest questions heading into this weekend was if the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (3-2) bats could wake up after a lackluster start to the season.
That question seemed to be answered on Saturday afternoon with a resounding yes as they took down Sam Houston State (2-4) by the score of 6-1.
Both teams couldn’t get anything going before Alex Pinero was able to score off a wild pitch in the top of the fourth to take an early lead. It seemed to be the Cajuns objective to score off of mistakes by the Bearkats as they got another run across in the top of the fifth inning when Ishmael Edwards scored off of an error from Lance Miles. Later in the inning, freshman Todd Lott would send two runs home with a single to left field.
The Bearkats would finally get on the board though in the bottom of the fifth when Taylor Beene would hit an RBI single to left field to make it 4-1.
Lott would get his fourth hit of the game in the top of the eighth with a solo shot over the left field wall to extend their lead. The final nail would be put in the coffin when Logan Stoelke scored off an error by Hunter Southland.
Nick Lee improves to 2-0 on the season allowing one run off of five hits, walked one, and struck out eight batters in seven innings of work.
The Cajuns will go for the sweep on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 pm.
