The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (1-7) rough start to the 2019 season continued on Friday night with a deflating 4-2 loss to the Maryland Terrapins (6-2).
How It Happened:
The Cajuns got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Daniel Lahare led off the inning with a solo home run. That lead didn’t last long though as Randy Bednar hit a ground-rule double in the top of the fifth to score Alleyne to tie things up. Maryland put up two more runs in the inning, capitalizing on a pair of errors committed by the Cajuns.
The Terrapins scored yet again in the top of the sixth off of a throwing error by Hayden Cantrelle. The Cajuns finally got another run across in the bottom of the eighth when Cantrelle reached on a fielder’s choice that got Gavin Bourgeois across home plate, but it wasn’t enough to get a rally going, handing them their fifth straight loss.
Big Number: 3
When you have three or more errors in a ballgame that could be the kiss of death for a team and that’s how it happened on Friday night with the Cajuns committing three errors on the evening with each of them resulting in runs coming across.
Player of the Game: Justin Voight
It was difficult to find an outright player of the game from both teams, but Voight’s performance was enough to earn it, going 2-of-4 on the evening with an RBI to boot.
