The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (1-6) ended their weekend in Huntsville, Texas on a sour note, allowing five runs in the eighth to fall to Sam Houston State (5-1) by the score of 9-2.
How It Happened:
The Bearkats got on the board in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Clayton Harp, but the Cajuns tied things up with O’Neal Lochridge connecting with an RBI double in the top of the fifth out to right center.
Daniel Lahare gave the Cajuns a 2-1 lead in the sixth when he hit an RBI single out to right field, scoring Hunter Kasuls. However, Sam Houston State fought back with a two-run sixth inning to make it a 3-2 ballgame.
The Bearkats offense then exploded in the eighth with a five-run inning that was capped by Harp blasting a three-run shot out to right field to put the game out of reach.
Big Number: 5
Five runs allowed in one inning is almost always a kiss of death. Do that in the bottom of the eighth? Unless you have a top-level offense, it’s going to be an uphill climb to try to even tie up the ballgame.
Player of the Game: Clayton Harp
The Bearkats offense looked great and one of the reasons why was because of Harp, who went three-for-five including the game-clinching three-run bomb. It was just an all-around impressive day for him.
