Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Take Game One of Doubleheader

Posted by clintdomingue on April 6, 2019 in Blogs, Latest News

After last night’s demoralizing loss, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns showed that they put the loss behind them with a convincing 14-5 win over Arkansas State to even up the series.

How It Happened:

The Cajuns broke up the stalemate in the bottom of the third with a sac fly by Todd Lott to get Hayden Cantrelle across home plate. Later in the inning, Handsome Monica drilled one out to left field to make it 2-0.

The offense continued to get runs across in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from O’Neal Lochridge and a sac bunt from Cantrelle quickly made it a 4-0 ballgame. Monica and Tremaine Spears went back-to-back in the fifth inning with a pair of solo home runs.

Cantrelle joined in on the home run party with a two-run blast to left center in the sixth. Later in the inning, Spears drilled a two-run double out to left center to make it a 10-0 ballgame.

Arkansas State finally got on the board in the top of the eighth with a grand slam from Sky-lar Culver, but the Cajuns slammed the door shut in the bottom frame with a four-run inning that was kickstarted by an RBI single Brennan Breaux.

Big Number: 4

The Cajuns bats came alive and having four home runs on the afternoon proved to be huge.

Player of the Game: Handsome Monica

He’s been one of the better hitters on this team but he really showed off his power in the first game of the doubleheader with two home runs and four RBIs. Nothing short of impressive.
