Things looked a little dicey, but the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (23-18) were able to pull it together in the later innings, coming away with an 8-6 win over the UNO Privateers (18-25).
How It Happened
Things didn’t look good for the Cajuns right out of the gate when Pearce Howard wound up on third after an error in the outfield by Zach LaFleur. Owen Magee got the Privateers up 1-0 in the first with a sac fly out to center. The Cajuns evened things up in the bottom frame with a groundout to third by Gavin Bourgeois, scoring Hayden Cantrelle.
Darren Willis got the Privateers back out in front with a groundout to shortstop to get Jay Robinson across. UNO started to pull away in the fourth with a three-run inning highlighted by a two-run single by Howard. However, LaFleur got a two-out rally going in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out triple to left center. Kole McKinnon and Jonathan Windham followed up with a pair of RBI singles to bring the lead back down to one run.
After Devin Morrill was walked with the bases loaded, the Cajuns responded in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double from Bourgeois. He followed that up in the seventh with a two-run sacrifice bunt to make it 7-6. LaFleur gave them some much needed insurance in the bottom of the eighth.
Dylan Moore improved to 2-3 on the season allowing one hit in four innings of work, walked one and struck out three on the evening.
Big Number: 4
Gavin Bourgeois was a big part of the Cajuns run production on Wednesday, with four of the Cajuns eight runs coming off of his bat.
Player of the Game: Dylan Moore
D-Mo has been struggling all season long, but he looked like the same guy that was shutting down offenses with four innings of relief work, allowing only one hit.
