For the first time since 2016, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns are hosting a NCAA Regional.
The Sun Belt runners-up will welcome Baylor, Ole Miss, and Princeton to Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park this weekend as the Cajuns will open the regional against the Tigers on Friday at 4:30. Ole Miss and Baylor will battle that evening.
For the Cajuns, this is the 25th straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament as they look for their seventh trip to the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
Louisiana went 42-17 on the season, winning 40+ games for the 25th consecutive season. After a rocky start where they sat at 9-12, Gerry Glasco’s squad took a win over then #1 Oklahoma and rode the wave of momentum to a 31-5 finish and a fifth straight regular-season Sun Belt title. The Cajuns were then met with adversity in the Sun Belt Softball Championships, having to come from behind to defeat Troy in the semifinals before falling to Texas State, the host of the tournament, in the championship game.
The Cajuns will look to depend on Sun Belt Player of the Year Mihyia Davis as well as Newcomer of the Year Brooke Ellestad and first-team pitcher Sam Landry for a return trip to the Super Regionals, which is paired with Florida.
Baylor comes to Lamson Park with a 32-20 record, including a split with Louisiana, while Ole Miss is 31-25 and Princeton is 29-16.
Tickets and the full schedule are scheduled to be released this week.
