Louisiana’s freshman Taylor Roman received the first Sun Belt Player of the Week honors of the 2022 softball season. In the opening weekend, Roman produced a team-leading three triples and eight RBI’s as the Cajuns start 5-0 on the season.
The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon as this is Roman’s first Conference honor of her young career. The honor is also the Ragin’ Cajuns first award since March of 2020 when Raina O’Neal won it.
Roman’s four out of six hits over the weekend series go for extra bases, she batted .462 and slugged 1.154 in her first games since recovering from her 2021 season-ending injury.
She recorded at least one hit and posted at least one RBI in all four games, and posted a triple in three consecutive games to start the off the 2022 season.
Her three triples and slugging percentage led all Sun Belt players in the first weekend of the season.
