Despite a strong start by the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (4-7) on Sunday, the Kentucky Wildcats (11-1) offense was just too much and the Cajuns ended the Shriner’s Classic in underwhelming fashion.
The Cajuns got out in front early on with Hayden Cantrelle hitting a sac fly out to center field in the top of the second to get Hunter Kasuls across home plate. However, the Wildcats turned the tables in the bottom frame with a two-run triple out to right center.
After Daniel Lahare scored on a passed ball in the sixth, Monroe Moll hit an RBI single up the middle to score Kennon Fontenot, making it a 3-2 ballgame in favor of the Cajuns. Once again, Kentucky started to dominate in the bottom of the sixth with a four-run inning that began with a solo shot from T.J. Collett out to right field.
Collett put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run double out to left center field to make it 9-4.
Austin Perrin dropped to 0-3 on the season, allowing four runs off of eight hits, walked one, and struck out three in five innings of work.
The Cajuns will return to the Tigue on Wednesday to take on the LSU Tigers (8-4) with first pitch set for 6 pm.
