The LSU Tigers didn’t win in the dominating fashion many people expected, but at the end of the day, the Tigers came away with a 44-22 win over Eastern Michigan in Death Valley.
The Tigers came out the gate strong with a quick drive that ended with Leonard Fournette walking into the endzone from three yards out to get the early lead. Brandon Harris decided to take one in on the ground as well, but taking it from 21 yards out for the score.
After a fast-paced first quarter, the Tigers settled for a chip shot by Trent Domingue to extend their lead to 17-0. But the Eagles from Eastern Michigan weren’t going to go away quietly. Shaq Vann got the Eagles on the board late in the second quarter with a 6 yard run. After a Brandon Harris interception was taken to the LSU 3, Eastern Michigan came within three points with Darius Jackson walking into the endzone for the score.
After Domingue kicked a 45-yard field goal to keep Eastern Michigan at bay heading into halftime, Fournette erupted on the first play of the second half with a 75-yard jaunt into the endzone to pull further away. Domingue comes through again with another chip shot to make it 30-14.
Eastern Michigan Quarterback Dustin Creel tried to keep the Eagles in it with a short pass to Brogan Roback for six and Roback was connected with again on the two point conversion to make it an eight point game heading into the fourth quarter.
But Fournette helped but the dagger in the Eagles hopes of an upset with his third score of the night. Deion Jones put the nail in the coffin with a pick six a couple minutes later.
