BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s basketball team will host first and second-round NCAA Tournament games for the fourth straight year.

LSU (28-5) earned the No. 3 seed in the Spokane 1 Regional and will face off against No. 14 San Diego State (25-9) on Saturday inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The time for tip-off is yet to determined.

If LSU defeats San Diego State, Kim Mulkey’s squad would face the winner of the game between No. 6 Florida State (23-8) vs. No. 11 George Mason (27-5). That matchup would be on Monday, March 24 for a chance to advance to the Sweet Sixteen in Spokane, Washington.

LSU is also in the region with the bracket’s No. 1 overall seed UCLA (30-2), and No. 2 seed N.C. State (26-6). The Tigers defeated the Wolfpack by 17 points in a game in the Bahamas this season.

This year’s LSU team is led by a trio of All-Southeastern Conference players Flau’jae Johnson, Aneesah Morrow, and Mikaylah Williams. Johnson and Morrow have missed the team’s most recent games due to injuries.

In the past three seasons, Mulkey’s Tiger teams have won at least one NCAA Tournament game.

Last season, LSU defeated Rice 70-60 in the first round, Middle Tennessee 83-56 in the second round, and then UCLA 78-69 in the Sweet 16. LSU lost to eventual national runner-up Iowa 94-87 in the Elite 8.

In the 2022-23 season, LSU won its first national championship as it defeated Hawaii, Michigan, Utah, Miami, Virginia Tech, and Iowa in the tournament.

In Mulkey’s first season, LSU defeated Jackson State in the first round but was upset by Ohio State in the second round inside the PMAC.

After the first two rounds being held on campus sites, the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games will take place March 28-31 in Spokane, Washington, and Birmingham, Alabama.

The Final Four will be held at the Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay on April 3 for the national semifinals and April 6 for the national championship game.

LSU’s NCAA Tournament games will be broadcast live on Mustang 107.1 FM — Acadiana’s Classic Country station.
