Press Release from LSUE Bengals Athletics
EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice will begin its postseason journey on Saturday, May 3 against Baton Rouge CC with the start of the 2025 Division I Region 23 Baseball Tournament this weekend. LSUE (49-3) is the number one seed in the four-team, double elimination tournament after capturing the LCCAC regular season championship.
The tournament will be hosted by Baton Rouge CC and played at Denham Springs High School. The winner of bracket play will advance to the South District Championship Series to play at the Alabama-based Region 22 winner May 15-17 in a best-of-three series. The District Champion receives an automatic berth in the NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series at Sum Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado from May 24-31.
This postseason will begin a new chapter for LSU Eunice after dominating the Division II ranks of Region 23 for more than two decades. The Bengals reached the championship game of the Region 23 Tournament in each of the last six seasons and played in the finals 16 of the last 21 postseasons under NJCAA and ABCA Hall of Fame head coach Jeff Willis.
LSU Eunice finished the regular season with a 49-3 record, the second most wins in a regular season in program history. The Bengals offense pieced together one of the most prolific attacks in NJCAA Division I this season. LSUE ranks in the Top 15 nationally in virtually every statistical category – batting average (11th), runs (6th), home runs (11th), runs batted in (7th), walks (4th), on-base percentage (1st), and slugging percentage (9th).
Tyson LeBlanc leads the Bengals’ attack, pacing the team in hits (73), doubles (18), home runs (10), RBIs (58), runs scored (65), and stolen bases (34). He’s one of seven players to post a batting average over .350 with Aidan Mouton and his .426 average leading that group.
The pitching staff ranks sixth nationally in earned run average, posting a team ERA of 3.63. Caden Tarango leads the team with 80 strikeouts, while Alec Beversdorf has a team-high 10 wins. McCray Jacobs is the top bullpen arm, posting a team-best 2.387 ERA average in 21 appearances.
Baton Rouge CC enters the postseason with a 5-43 record but one of those victories came against LSUE earlier this season. Jackson Martin is the Bears’ top bat, posting a .289 average with 18 RBIs and 27 runs scored. Cade Robin has logged the most innings on the mound for BRCC, sporting a 9.23 earned run average.
While this will mark the first postseason meeting between the Bengals and Bears, they are no strangers to each other as Saturday’s game will mark the 95th all-time meeting between the two teams.
Delgado CC and Nunez CC are the other two teams in the four-team field. The Dolphins have captured the last 14 Division I Region 23 Tournament titles, while the Pelicans come off their best regular season record in the program’s eight-year history.
The tournament will culminate with the championship game, set for Monday, May 5 at 6:45PM. An if-necessary game is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6 at 4:00PM if two teams have one loss following the championship round.
Admission will be $12 per day with unlimited re-entry each day. Fans will need to purchase tickets for each day of the tournament online through BRCC’s online ticketing provider at https://brccathletics.com/brcc_athletics_tickets or with a credit or debit card at the main gate on the day of.
