It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Baton Rouge for the 2022 National L Club Spring Game for LSU. Chance of rain is never in Tiger Stadium, and that proved true today. Brian Kelly’s first “game” as a LSU head coach is in the books, with

The first half was true game style, with both offense and defense scoring points for different accomplishments (sacks, turnovers, 3 and outs etc). Early on, Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier were the two QBs to get first-team reps, with Nussmeier moving the ball effectively. Myles Brennan trotted out for the third offensive series of the contest, as it’s been discussed that he and Daniels would be a part of a two-QB system. Walker Howard, the freshman star from St Thomas More, also had a few reps in the contest. Here are some players that really stood out in today’s Spring Game:

Garrett Nussmeier

Under Nussmeier’s lead, LSU’s offense produced it’s only two scoring drives of the opening quarter: a 10-yard run by Armoni Goodwin and a 48 yard field goal. Nussmeier moved the ball efficiently and looked poised in his decision making. Nussmeier finished the game 9-16 for 136 yards and a touchdown.

Jack Bech

The STM product picked up right here left off from last season, being a major contributor in the Tigers’ offense so far this spring. Bech looks poised for another big role in the Tigers’ offense in 2022. He caught 6 passes for 56 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Jayden Daniels

The Arizona State transfer was outstanding. He exhibited all the ways he can beat opposing defenses: with this arm as well as on the ground. The way he was able to adjust and make plays was truly impressive. A deep ball down the sideline to Brian Thomas Jr set himself up for a one-yard touchdown run. Passing wise, Daniels finished the first half 2-6 for 48 yards, but also added 20 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Armoni Goodwin

The sophomore from Birmingham was sensational for the Tigers today, running downhill with strength and speed as well as being an excellent pass catcher out of the backfield. Goodwin can be a essential piece of Kelly’s offense in 2022 with more performances like this. Goodwin had 9 carries for 71 yards and a score.

Josh Williams

The junior from Houston was impressive this afternoon, scoring a 17 yard touchdown run and then later catching a long pass from Nussmeier to set up another touchdown run for himself. He finished the game portion with 19 yards and two touchdowns.

Tre Bradford

Bradford was another key contributor in the LSU offense today, picking up 86 yards on 9 carries, including his longest rush of 37 yards. Bradford could be a key piece to the Tigers’ running back room.

Other notable performances were that of the freshman Walker Howard. Howard went 3-3 for 13 yards in the first half, but hit Corren Norman on a 55 yard touchdown pitch and catch in the final portion of the contest.

UP NEXT: LSU will open Brian Kelly’s first season at the Caesar’s Superdome on Sunday, September 4th against Florida State. Kickoff for this contest is currently To Be Announced.
