The LSU Tigers were well represented when the Southeastern Conference released its 2024 baseball season awards as three Tigers made the All-SEC second team and two were placed on the freshman team.
Slugger Tommy White, ace pitcher Luke Holman, and reliever Griffin Herring were each named to the SEC Second Team while Ashton Larson and Steven Milam garnered freshman honors.
White had another great season in Baton Rouge, leading LSU in batting average at .341 with 11 doubles, 23 home runs, and 63 RBI. He capped off the regular season by winning SEC Player of the Week after hitting .615 against Ole Miss.
Holman transferred from Alabama after the national title run and carved out a role for himself early on, pitching to a 2.73 ERA in 14 appearances. He carries an 8-3 record into the postseason in 79 innings of work with 24 earned runs, 30 walks, and 109 strikeouts (1st on the team).
Herring has been dominant for much of the season as a reliever, starting just one game in his 17 appearances. The sophomore has a 3-1 record and a 1.99 ERA in 40.2 innings. He’s allowed 32 hits, 12 runs, walked 11, and struck out 56 on the season and opponents are hitting just above the Mendoza line against him (.216).
Larson came on really strong in the second half of his freshman campaign, finishing second on the team on average at a .336 clip. He has eight doubles, three home runs, 14 runs batted in, and a .487 slugging percentage in 43 games and 30 starts.
Milam proved pretty early on that he had what it took to be the everyday second baseman, playing in 53 games with 50 starts. He finished the year hitting .311 with nine doubles, three triples, four homers, and 29 RBI, and a .463 slugging percentage on the season. The freshman also carried a .980 fielding percentage with just 4 errors in his first season.
LSU begins their postseason title defense Tuesday when they play in the SEC Tournament at 9:30 a.m. The action can be heard on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette and 104.1 Lake Charles.
