The LSU Tigers gave their fans quite a scare in their “season opener” against Mississippi State, hanging on after a missed field goal in the final seconds by the score of 21-19.
Leonard Fournette got LSU on the board first with a one-yard run into the endzone late in the first quarter.
Fournette did it again just a few minutes later after LSU forced a three-and-out on Mississippi State with a 21-yard run into the endzone to give the Tigers an early 14-0 lead.
The Bulldogs finally got on the board late in the first half off of a 43-yard field goal by Westin Graves.
Graves kept cutting away at LSU’s lead hitting another field goal, this time it was from 24 yards out.
But Fournette was not about to call it a night with two TDs, he got the trifecta from 18 yards out to increase the Tigers lead to 21-6.
Dak Prescott got the rally started in the fourth quarter with a one-yard run into the endzone. Prescott and the Bulldogs kept the pressure on the Tigers later in the fourth with a five-yard pass to De-Runnya Wilson to come within two points.
But it wasn’t meant to be after a delay of game penalty in the waning seconds to set up a 52-yarder for Devon Bell to win the game for the Bulldogs. After Miles iced Bell twice, Bell kicked it wide right, giving the Tigers the win.
LSU (1-0, 1-0 SEC) will return to Death Valley for another SEC matchup against Auburn with kickoff set for 2:30 pm.
