LSU Notebook: Ed Ingram, Who Replaces Marshall and More

After a 66-38 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday, there’s a lot that the Tigers needed to work on during the open date with the emphasis being on open-field tackling.

According to Ed Orgeron, the Tigers had 18 missed tackles on film for 148 yards last Saturday against Vanderbilt. If they want to achieve all of their goals this season, obviously that number has to go way down and it will undoubtedly be a focal point for the team ahead of their next ballgame against Utah State.

Ed Ingram Update

After being reinstated to the program before the team made the trip to Nashville, Ed Ingram made his return to practice on Tuesday and it looks like he hasn’t missed a beat.

“I think he looked fantastic, he’s been working out and lost some weight.” Orgeron said during his press conference on Tuesday, “Our team had a little pep in their step and they all cheered for him when we announced he was back today. I think he gives us a sense of confidence up front and a sense that we can do some things with other guys that give us more depth.”

With an extra week to prepare for the Aggies, it should come as no surprise that he could see significant playing time as soon as October 5th but there’s one man that he will have to beat to get that starting role and that’s Adrian Magee.

“He has to beat him (Adrian Magee) out.” The Tigers head coach said, “Right now Magee is in the starting spot. If he does beat him out, which will probably happen, we can use Adrian as a utility guy, right tackle, right guard, left guard, left tackle. He can play anywhere.”

Who Fills Marshall’s Void?

One of the more disappointing parts of LSU’s dominant win over Vanderbilt was losing Terrace Marshall to a foot injury. The sophomore underwent surgery on Sunday and could be out for three-to-four weeks.

When it comes to an immediate replacement for Marshall, it will be reliant on current tight end Stephen Sullivan.

“We’ll move Stephen outside and let him play.” Orgeron mentioned, “I think that’ll be good for him and our team.”

One of the keys to the decision was because of the performance from tight ends like Thaddeus Moss.

“Our tight ends have played well and I think Stephen will step in there and play a big role. I believe those other guys will step it up and we will be fine.”
