LSU NOTEBOOK: Safety Stevens Earns Weekly Honor; Men’s Basketball Ranked No. 22

Posted by Raymond Partsch III on October 21, 2019 in Blogs, Featured, Latest News, LSU Tigers, RP3's Blogs
LSU safety JaCoby Stevens was named SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

The LSU football team had a star player earn weekly honors from the Southeastern Conference — and he wasn’t named Joe Burrow.

LSU safety Jacoby Stevens was selected as the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Stevens recorded 8 tackles, 1 sack and a highlight-worthy one-handed interception in the team’s 36-13 win over Mississippi State on Saturday in Starkville.

Stevens shared the honor with Texas A&M linebacker Buddy Johnson.

Stevens is currently third on the team in tackles (38), sacks (2) and pass break-ups (4), and is second in interceptions (2).

No. 2 LSU (7-0, 3-0 SEC) returns to action this Saturday at home against No. 9 Auburn (6-1, 3-1 SEC). Kickoff is set for 2:35 p.m.

Alabama Game Time Set

The SEC announced the networks and start times for the Nov. 2nd slate of college football games but also revealed the time and channel for the following week’s Nov. 9th marquee matchup between LSU and Alabama.

The annual rivalry game between the Tigers and Tide will kick off at 2:30 and will be broadcast CBS as the network’s national game of the week. That also means that LSU will play three consecutive games (at Mississippi State, at home against Auburn and then at Alabama) with 2:30 kickoffs.

Men’s Basketball Ranked

The LSU men’s basketball team will enter the 2019-20 season ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. The Tigers are ranked No. 22 in the first poll that was released on Monday.

LSU is one of only four teams from the SEC to be ranked in the first poll.

In addition to LSU, there is Kentucky (No. 2), Florida (No. 6) and Auburn (No. 24. Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi State and Alabama were conference teams that received votes.

LSU is coming off a season in which the Tigers won the SEC regular season championship, went 28-7 overall and advanced to the Sweet 16.
