LSU was picked to finish third the West behind Alabama and Texas A&M by the SEC Media preseason poll. Overall, seven LSU players were selected to the first and second All-SEC preseason team.
Cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. and kicker Cade York were the only Tigers voted first-team selections on the preseason All-Southeastern Conference team.
LSU had three players on the second-team offense and two on the second-team defense.
Second-team offense were selections guard Ed Ingram, tackle Austin Deculus wide receiver Kayshon Boutte.
Second-team defense selections were cornerback Elias Ricks and defensive end Ali Gaye
Alabama was picked to win the SEC champion with 84 votes to Georgia’s 45.
Only eight times since 1992 has the predicted champion prior to the season gone on to win the SEC championship game.
