LSU’s Joe Burrow has picked up his first weekly honor of the season.

Burrow was named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after a record-setting performance in the Tigers’ season opening 55-3 victory against Georgia Southern on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.

Burrow completed 23-of-27 passes for 278 yards as LSU scored the most points in a season opener since 2000, and Burrow also led the Tigers to touchdown drives on the team’s first five possessions of Saturday’s contest. Burrow also tied a single-game program record with 5 touchdowns passes (previously held by Zach Mettenberger) and became the first LSU player to throw 5 touchdowns in a single half.

Burrow’s 85.2 completion percentage from Saturday’s game also ranks as fifth best in school history.

Burrow shared SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors with Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa who accounted for 351 total yards and 4 touchdowns in the Crimson Tide’s season opening win over Duke.

The other SEC weekly winners were: Auburn defensive back Jeremiah Dinson (Defensive Player of the Week), Georgia place kicker Rodrigo Blankenship (Special Teams Player of the Week), Georgia’s Andrew Thomas (Offensive Lineman of the Week), Florida’s Jonathan Greenard and Alabama’s DJ Dale (Defensive Lineman of the Week), and Auburn’s Bo Nix (Freshman of the Week).
