BATON ROUGE — LSU safety Kary Vincent Jr. is opting out of the 2020 season.

The 5-foot-10, 189-pound versatile senior made the announcement on social media on Monday. Vincent Jr. wrote the following:

“First, I would like to thank Coach Orgeron, the coaching staff and LSU for helping me mature and develop as a player and a person, both on an doff the field. Winning the national championship last year was something that I will cherish forever and the experiences of the 2019 season proved to me just how important team work, leadership, and being selfless is to the success of an organization.

The LSU fans are the greatest in the world. There’s nothing more exciting and fulfilling than putting on the purple and gold uniform and performing in Tiger Stadium in front our great LSU fans.

With thoughtful prayer and lengthy discussions with my family, we fell that it is in my best interest to opt out of my final year at LSU and begin training for the NFL Combine. I have worked long and hard for the opportunity to play in the NFL. I’m humbled and excited about attacking this next challenge with humility, integrity, and dignity. I will always be Forever LSU.

Geaux Tigers,

Kary Vincent Jr.”

Vincent Jr. had lined up at both safety and cornerback in his career with the Tigers. Vincent recorded 47 tackles (36 solo), four interceptions and 13 passes defended for LSU during last year’s national title run. He also served as the lead leg of LSU’s 4×100 meter relay team in 2017 and helped the team win the gold at the SEC Championships that same year.

Vincent Jr. was a four-star recruit by 247Sports, Rivals, ESPN and Scout coming out of Port Arthur Memorial High School in Texas.
