Welcome everyone to the final edition of the LSU position preview! This week, we focus on the secondary headed into the 2016 season.
Who Left After Last Season?
The only player to leave the team in the secondary is Jalen Mills. Mills had an adequate senior season despite only playing in six games in his senior year with 30 total tackles. His on-field ability will be sorely missed for the Tigers this season.
Who’s Coming Back?
Virtually all the secondary from last season is making a return. It’s amazing the amount of talent that is on this team from last season. Obviously, you’ve got Tre’Davious White who had a great junior season both on the defensive side of the ball and in special teams. But another weapon to watch out for is Kevin Toliver who will have a lot to do in terms of helping out the secondary alongside Ed Paris. Don’t be surprised if you see Dwayne Thomas and Donte Jackson also have breakout years as sophomores.
The Other Guys
There’s quite a few big name players on the defensive side of the ball that could be a major help in terms of rotation. Guys like Kristian Fulton and Saivion Smith have the potential to be potential starters in 2016. There’s other players that could be used as backups if their performances can improve as fall camp progresses.
Conclusion
The secondary was already going to be a force to be reckoned with because of the veteran players. Under Dave Aranda’s new system? Expect to see LSU try to live up to the name of “DBU” with the added depth alongside the veteran players.
