Welcome everyone to the latest preview for LSU’s next matchup! This week, it’s an in-state matchup for LSU as they’ll host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs!
Without further ado, let’s get on with the preview!
Last Time Out:
I don’t think many LSU fans will soon forget what happened last week on the plains of Auburn when Cole Tracy crushed one through the uprights as time expired to give them a 22-21 win last Saturday.
Louisiana Tech actually had last weekend off, but the last time they took the field they dominated the Southern Jags by the score of 54-17 to improve to 2-0 on the season
Last Meeting:
The last time these two teams faced off, the Tigers were given a little bit of a scare in 2009 by Derek Dooley’s squad but they were still able to come away with a 24-16 win. LSU has only lost one game to the Bulldogs and that was all the way back in 1904 losing 6-0.
Storylines to Watch:
Can’t Come Out Sluggish
One of the big concerns for LSU after the home opener against Southeastern was that they seemed to be sleepwalking after coming away with a win over Miami. You can’t have LSU come out of the gates sluggish against a Louisiana Tech team.
It seems likely that Coach Orgeron will have his guys ready to go on Saturday after a big win, but you have to think there could be some carryover from last weekend.
Does Brennan Play?
If LSU has the ability to go up by at least four possessions at half, you have to think that Myles Brennan gets at least some playing time. It was a little unusual to not see him a couple of weeks ago against Southeastern Louisiana, but if there’s any chance to see the sophomore in action in 2018 it would probably be this ballgame.
Again, it’s all about how the game looks but I think that Orgeron is ready to see if Brennan can hold his own in a ballgame and a team like the Bulldogs is a pretty good litmus test to see if he’s ready to come in at a moment’s notice.
LSU Will Win If:
LSU will come away with the win if they don’t sleepwalk through this ballgame and coast after the first half like they did against Southeastern Louisiana. You can also point to seeing the offensive line open up some holes in the run game to let Nick Brossette and others establish the run game early on.
It was an unusual ballgame for the Tigers last week with the ground game being stifled and only having 121 net yards on the evening.
Louisiana Tech Will Win If:
The Bulldogs can pull off the sizable upset on Saturday if you see them get after Joe Burrow like Southeastern Louisiana did a couple weeks ago. It’ll be a lot tougher based on how the offensive line is set up now, but the Bulldogs front seven will need Jaylon Ferguson to have a big ballgame if they want to cause some pressure in the backfield.
