LSU is set to bring back Will Wade as their head men’s basketball coach, according to multiple reports.

Wade spent this past season at NC State, where he went 20-14 this season with an exit in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to that, Wade enjoyed a two-year run at McNeese, where he made two NCAA Tournament appearances and a tournament win for the Cowboys over Clemson. They also won two regular season and tournament championships in the Southland Conference.

Prior to his time at McNeese, Wade was the coach at LSU from 2017-2022, winning 105 games and making three NCAA Tournament appearances. However, his tenure abruptly ended following an FBI probe involving impermissible benefits.

Joining Wade at LSU is Heath Schroyer, who was the Athletic Director at McNeese who gave Wade his first job after the FBI probe.

Schroyer has maintained a relationship with Wade, and it was rumored that his move to LSU was a requirement for Wade to consider returning.

The former McNeese AD is expected to assume a role as “Senior Deputy AD and Executive Director of External Relations for the LSU System.”

LSU will part ways with Matt McMahon to make room for Wade. In four years with LSU, McMahon was 60-70 overall but just 17-55 in SEC games.
