BATON ROUGE – For the second straight year, the LSU women’s basketball team have earned the ability to host both first and second-round NCAA Tournament games.

LSU earned the No. 3 seed in the Greenville 2 Regional and will face off against No. 14 Hawaii Friday inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Tip is yet to determined.

If LSU defeats Hawaii, Kim Mulkey’s team would then face the winner of No. 6 Michigan vs. No. 11 UNLV game on Sunday for a chance to go to the Sweet Sixteen in Greensboro, S.C.

After leading LSU to a 26-6 record in her first season at the helm of the Lady Tigers, Mulkey’s encore was guiding the program to a 27-1 regular season and winning their first 23 games. That was was the best start in program history and the longest win-streak in program history.

LSU began the season with a school-record five consecutive 100-point games, tying what is believed to be the NCAA record that was set in 1981-82 by Louisiana Tech when Mulkey played for the Lady Techsters.

Maryland transfer Angel Reese was nearly unstoppable for the Tigers as she recorded 23 straight double-doubles to begin the season and enters the NCAA Tournament with 28, breaking the program record previously set by Sylvia Fowles.

After the first two rounds being held on campus sites, the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games will take place March 24-27 in Greenville, S.C. and Seattle. The regionals will be called Greenville 1, Greenville 2, Seattle 3 and Seattle 4.

The Final Four will be held at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on March 31 for the national semifinals and April 2 for the national championship game.
