Ja’Marr Chase is reuniting with Joe Burrow.
The former LSU star wide receiver was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the No. 5 overall pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft.
Chase also becomes the highest drafted wide receiver in program history. The previous highest drafted wide receiver from LSU was Odell Beckham Jr. who was selected No. 12 overall in 2014.
Chase rewrote LSU and the Southeastern Conference’s record books during LSU’s national championship season in 2019. Chase earned unanimous All-American honors and became only the second LSU player to win the Biletnikoff Award for the nation’s top receiver.
Chase appeared in 27 games in his two seasons with the Tigers — which coincided with Burrow as the team’s record-setting quarterback. In those two seasons with the Tigers, Chase had 107 receptions for 2,093 yards and 23 touchdowns, including 20 in 2019.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Chase opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns.
