LSU wide receiver Travin Dural rescued a woman who was trapped inside her overturned SUV after it swerved off the road, reports The Advocate.
Dural drove by the wreck at around 10 p.m. on July 31. The car was upside down inside a 6-foot-deep ditch, and both front doors were jammed closed. The driver was hanging upside down in the driver’s seat, restrained by her seatbelt.
After originally driving past the scene, Dural and his cousin, Southern University receiver Randall Menard, turned back to assist the woman.
“It was a good thing we turned around. I’m glad we got a chance to help this lady out,” Dural said. “There were no cars on the street. I don’t know when the next time somebody was going to come by.”
The woman had been inside the car for approximately five minutes before the two men pried open a rear door and helped her out of the car.
“It’s something you normally don’t see a young guy his age do,” St. Martin Sheriff Deputy Michael McQuade said. “Normal people would ride by and call. They wouldn’t go above and beyond and stop and check.”
Dural was LSU’s leading receiver in 2014 as a redshirt sophomore. He started all 13 games for the Tigers last season, and hauled in 37 receptions for 758 yards with seven touchdowns. The team went 8–5 to tie for fifth place in the SEC West.
LSU opens the 2015 season against McNeese State on Sept. 5.
