Press Release by LSUE Athletics
CROWLEY, La. – LSU Eunice Baseball rolled through opening weekend, capping off the start of the campaign with an 8-3 victory over Arkansas State-Mountain Home on Sunday at Miller Stadium in Crowley. The Bengals (3-0) swept their first weekend of the season for the tenth straight season, dating back to 2016.
LSUE found itself in an early hole after the Trail Blazers manufactured a run in the top of the third. The Bengals answered as Jackson Legg tripled home Caleb Hastings and would score on an error on the ply to give LSUE the lead for good. Ashton Fuselier added a run an inning later on a two-out single to score Griffin Cooley.
After ASU-Mountain Home clawed back to within a run in the fifth, Will Mabry launched a towering two-run home run and in the seventh, doubled home Legg to push the LSUE advantage to 6-2. Mabry went 2-for-2 on the game with three RBIs and a run scored while walking three times.
Aidan Mouton’s sacrifice fly in the seventh and Alex Dupuy scoring on an eighth inning wild pitch gave LSUE an 8-2 lead. The Trail Blazers scored a run in the ninth before Clark Sampson helped end the game on the mound.
Fuselier led the Bengals with a three-hit outing joined by Mabry and Legg with multi-hit games. Legg was a standout during the first weekend of season, leading the team going 4-for-6 at the plate with six RBIs and six runs scored while walking four times.
Caden Tarango notched the win after going three innings in the Sunday start. After working in traffic in the first inning, the sophomore settled down to give up just one unearned run off three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. McCray Jacobs and Hunter Gambel also saw time in relief.
The Bengals will be back in Crowley next weekend for a three-game series against National Park College. All games will be at Miller Stadium with the Friday opener beginning at 6:00PM.
