EUNICE, La. – LSU Eunice has tabbed John Plumbar to serve as its next Men’s Soccer Head Coach, it was announced on Wednesday. Plumbar comes to the Cajun Prairie with extensive coaching experience in the club and high school levels, based out of nearby Lafayette.
The hire is pending approval by the LSU Board of Supervisors.
“Coach Plumbar has all the intangibles we look for as a member of our athletic department” LSU Eunice Athletic Director Jeff Willis said. “His attention to detail, passion for the student-athlete, and knowledge of high-level student-athletes across the state and region made him an ideal candidate to lead our Men’s Soccer program.”
The Lafayette native has spent the last four seasons as the head coach of St. Thomas More High School, guiding the Cougars to two Louisiana High School Athletics Association (LHSAA) Division II State Championship in 2022 and 2023. “My passion is to continue to build the game of soccer in Louisiana and I’m grateful to be given the opportunity to do that at LSU Eunice,” LSU Eunice Men’s Soccer head coach John Plumbar said. “There’s a commitment to excellence at LSUE and our team will work incredibly hard to meet the standard and raise the bar.”
In addition to his prep coaching, Plumbar has extensive experience with the Lafayette-based club LA Krewe Rush and its parent company, Rush Soccer. As a part of LA Krewe Rush, he is currently the Director of Player Development for Boys and Girls aged 11-19, and the Women’s Team Head Coach of their semi-professional side in the Gulf Coach Premier League (GCPL). He has served in various other roles since joining the organization in 2018, when the club was formally known as Cajun Rush before its merger with Dynamo Juniors of Lafayette.
As a part of the parent organization, Rush Soccer, Plumbar is actively involved on a regional and national level. He currently coaches the 2010 Boys South Region team for the last three years, winning the 2023 International Rush Cup in Port St. Lucie, Florida and has assisted with Rush National teams.

In his playing career, Plumbar was a four-year starter at the University of Mobile, advancing to the NAIA National Quarterfinals twice. After his collegiate career, Plumbar was invited to the USL/MLS Combine while playing for the Shreveport Rafters (NPSL) and played two years with Cajun Rush’s GCPL team as a player-coach before focusing on coaching full-time.
