LSU Eunice freshman Patrick Vienne has been named to the 2022 NJCAA All-Region 23 Team, it was announced earlier this month. Vienne is part of the 12-man squad made up of members of the MACCC and LSUE.
Vienne is now eligible for NJCAA All-American honors, which will be announced next month.
“Patrick became a dominant arm for us and had an extremely successful first year because of his work ethic,” LSU Eunice head coach Jeff Willis said. “We look forward to seeing Patrick progress this offseason as he transitions to being one of the veteran leaders on our squad.”
The St. Mary’s HS product led the nation in wins with an 11-1 record. Vienne exploded out of the gate for LSUE, becoming the first rookie pitcher in program history to notch a victory in his first eight appearances.
Vienne led the team with 83 strikeouts while his 2.69 earned run average was second. Opponents hit at a .233 clip in his 73.2 innings of work. The freshmen saved one of his best for last, helping LSU Eunice run-rule East Mississippi 10-0 in five innings in the Region 23 Tournament. Vienne tossed all five frames, giving up just two hits and one walk with eight punchouts.
The right-handed pitcher is one of three pitchers on the All-Region team as well as one of four freshmen on the list.
LSU Eunice finished the 2022 season with a 40-17 record, playing in the Region 23 Championship for the fourth straight year. It was the Bengals’ 14th Region Championship game in the program’s 20 years under the direction of Jeff Willis.
