LSUE baseball coach Jeff Willis received his 2024 Skip Bertman National Coach of the Year Award on Thursday in Overland Park, Kansas.
The award recognizes the nation’s top college baseball head coach across all levels of the sport. It is named after famed LSU coach Skip Bertman, and Willis is now the only two-time recipient in the history of the award.
The award is presented during the College Baseball Night of Champions. Inductees into the College Baseball Hall of Fame are also honored at the event.
Willis and his Bengals won another National Championship in 2024, their eighth in his tenure and the program’s history.
“It is truly humbling to even be associated with someone like Coach Bertman. These types of awards are a testament to the excellence I’m fortunate enough to be associated with – from our outstanding coaches and student-athletes to our staff and faculty that help our young men accomplish their academic and athletic goals,” Willis said after finding out he would receive the award last summer.
This year’s LSUE team is off and running, with their new stadium set to open in just a couple of weeks. They currently sit with a 10-0 record this season.
