LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels had another outstanding performance on Saturday to led to another win.
For the second week in a row, Daniels has been recognized for his play on the field and has been named Co-SEC Offensive Player of the Week. The other player to be honored for this week was South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler. The announcement was made by the league offices on Monday.
Last week, Daniels also shared his honor with teammate and wide receiver Malik Nabers due to their play against Mississippi State.
In the 34-31 win over Arkansas, the senior quarterback completed 20 out of 29 pass attempts for 320 yards and four touchdowns. Daniels also ran the ball 10 times for 36 and helped set up the Tigers to kick the game-winning field goal with less than 10 seconds to go in the game.
Daniels went deep a few times throughout the game and connected with Brian Thomas a couple of times that resulted in touchdowns for LSU. Both passes were within two minutes of one another and were each 49-yard scores.
As a team, the Tigers’ offense recorded 509 total yards and 26 first downs against a Razorbacks defense that was only allowing 257 yards per game ahead of the contest.
Following the win on Saturday, Daniels became the sixth FBS player ever to accumulate 10,000 passing yards and rush for over 2,000 yards in a career. The milestone happened late in the second quarter when Daniels found Thomas. The signal caller also made LSU history by joining Jordan Jefferson by having 4,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing with the Tigers.
Since the game versus Grambling, Daniels has accounted for at least four touchdowns in every game, including the game against Mississippi State where he threw two touchdowns and reached paydirt with his legs twice.
Daniels now has four SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors to his name with the other two coming from last year due to his performances versus Alabama and Ole Miss.
LSU will travel to Oxford, Mississippi to play Ole Miss next Saturday. Kickoff at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Pregame and all of the action can be heard on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette and 104.1 Lake Charles.
