They say it never rains in Tiger Stadium. That myth was once again debunked on Saturday night as it drizzled over the homecoming game between LSU (7-1, 3-1 SEC) and Mississippi State (4-3, 1-3 SEC).
With the rain though, both offenses had a difficult time getting things done in the first half. Because of that, the Tigers had to rely heavily on the leg of Cole Tracy on the way to a 19-3 win.
Things started off well for the Tigers defense when Michael Divinity picked off Nick Fitzgerald on the third play from scrimmage to give LSU the ball back in prime real estate. They quickly turned into seven points with Nick Brossette pounding through the trenches with a one-yard run.
The Bulldogs responded later in the first quarter when Jace Christmann nailed a chip-shot to make it 7-3. The score remained that way until Tracy drilled one through the uprights to make it a seven-point ballgame as time expired in the second quarter.
LSU started the second half with the ball and marches down the field on a drive that took four minutes off the clock and resulted in a 38-yarder from Tracy, making it 13-3. The field goals kept coming for LSU as he nailed attempts from 29 and 40 yards out to put the game on ice.
After a week off, the LSU Tigers will play host to the Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0, 4-0 SEC) with kickoff currently to be determined
