A pair of LSU players have signed professional contracts with Major League Baseball.
LSU Tigers Saul Garza and Zack Mathis went undrafted in the 2020 MLB Draft. However, Garza has signed with the Kansas City Royals and Mathis has signed with the San Diego Padres.
Both Garza and Mathis were juniors this past season. They are now headed to MLB on undrafted free agent contracts worth up to $20,000.
Garza appeared in 14 games for the Tigers in the shortened college baseball season. He had a batting average of .229 while leading the team with three home runs.
Mathis started at third base for the Tigers in 2020. He recorded nine RBI and batted .262 in 17 games.
Garza and Mathis join Cole Henry and Daniel Cabrera as LSU Tigers making the transition from college to the next level.
Henry was drafted 55th overall by the Washington Nationals. The Detroit Tigers selected Cabrera with 62nd overall pick.
