LSU’s Mays, Smart Earn All-SEC Preseason Coaches Honors

The LSU men’s basketball team had two players selected to the All-SEC Coaches Preseason Teams which were released on Monday.

BATON ROUGE — The LSU Tigers placed two on the Southeastern Conference unveiled men’s basketball coaches preseason All-SEC first and second teams which were released on Monday.

LSU senior guard Skylar Mays and sophomore guard Javonte Smart earned preseason honors. Mays was selected to the first team while Smart was voted on the second team. 

Mays averaged 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game and enters the 2019-20 season on the watch lists for the Jerry West and Naismith Player of the Year awards.

Smart meanwhile averaged 11.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game last season for the Tigers who won the SEC regular season title, and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Each one of the 14 SEC schools are represented with LSU, Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Tennessee each having multiple selections. The coaches’ preseason All-SEC first and second teams were voted on by the SEC basketball coaches. 

LSU opens the 2019-20 season this Friday at the PMAC against Bowling Green. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
