LSU’s Offense Explodes Early In Dominant Win Over Air Force

If opening weekend was any indication, LSU’s (3-0) offense is going to be hard to stop this season. That was evident in Sunday afternoon’s matchup against Air Force (1-2) where they attacked early and came away with a dominant 17-5 win.

How It Happened:

It didn’t take long for the Tigers to get on the scoreboard with a bases-loaded walk kickstarting a seven-run first inning that was highlighted by a pair of two-run doubles by Zach Watson and Saul Garza.

Drew Bianco kept the offense churning in the second inning with his first career hit getting out to left field for a two-run home run. Josh Smith joined in on the fun as well in the third with an RBI double, giving LSU a 10-0 lead.

The Falcons finally got on the board in the fourth with an RBI single from Daniel Jones, but it wasn’t enough and the game was put out of reach when the Tigers put together a four-run fifth inning highlighted by Antoine Duplantis hitting a two-run double.

Big Number: 9

The Tigers bats made noise all afternoon long and the biggest number that stands out is nine doubles. In fact, it’s one shy of the program record of 10 set all the way back in 1998. Without a doubt, this might be the most impressive performance the Tigers have had in quite some time and might be a sign of things to come.

Player of the Game: Antoine Duplantis

If Antoine Duplantis isn’t the SEC Player of the Week, then something is wrong with the system. Just in Sunday’s win, the senior went 3-of-5 with three RBIs and his weekend total had two home runs and 10 RBIs. Just an outstanding start to the season for the Lafayette native.
