LSU’s (2-0) new spread offense was put to the test on Saturday night under the bright lights of Darryl K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium with the Texas Longhorns (1-1) defense bringing the pressure. However, Joe Burrow kept calm and racked up nearly 500 yards through the air in a 45-38 win.

How It Happened:

The Tigers offense looked good to start the contest, but the offense stalled out and settled for a 36-yard field goal by Cade York. It remained 3-0 until early in the second quarter but a 55-yard pass from Sam Ehlinger to Brennan Eagles to go up 7-3.

Burrow made it 10-3 though on the very next drive when he connected with Justin Jefferson in the endzone. After a 33-yarder from York went through the uprights, Burrow found Jefferson once again, this time with a 21-yard pass to make it 20-7 at the break.

The Longhorns fired back to open the second half with Ehlinger taking it in himself to chip away at the lead. The Texas defense responded as well to open the second half, forcing LSU to settle for a field goal and that was followed up by a 20-yard pass to Jake Smith, pulling them within two points.

Joe Burrow responded early in the fourth quarter with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Terrace Marshall to get it to a nine-point ballgame. The shootout continued when Ehlinger found Devin Duvernay on a 44-yard touchdown pass to get back within two points. Clyde-Edwards Helaire got another score on the board to make it 37-28. After a 47-yarder from Cameron Dicker, Burrow put the dagger into the Longhorns’ heart with a 61-yard pass to Justin Jefferson.

Big Number: 471

Joe Burrow came close to shattering single-game records last Saturday and did it again in Austin, Texas with 471 yards through the air for four touchdowns with only one interception.

Player of the Game: Joe Burrow

Who saw that coming? Burrow showed that this spread offense is going to be dangerous with what he did through the air to help propel LSU to a victory on the road in a hostile environment is something to behold.

Next Up: Saturday vs Northwestern State; Kickoff at 6:30 pm
