Angel Reese can add one more honor to her career resume — WNBA Draft Pick.

The LSU superstar was selected No. 7 overall by the Chicago Sky in Monday night’s WNBA Draft. Reese became the seventh Tiger to be drafted in the Top 10 in program history, and the first first-round WNBA Draft Pick since LaSondra Barrett went No. 10 overall in the 2012 draft.

The Sky also selected South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso with the No. 2 overall pick and both will play for Louisiana Tech legend and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Teresa Weatherspoon

The highest-drafted players in LSU history were Seimone Augustus who went No. 1 overall in 2006 to the Minnesota Lynx and Sylvia Fowles who went No. 2 overall in 2008 to the Chicago Sky.

The 6-foot-3 Reese earned All-America honors this past season and was named the SEC Player of the Year after she led the conference in scoring with 18.6 points per game and rebounding with 13.4 boards per game as the Tigers advanced to the Elite 8. Reese also led the SEC with 27 double-doubles which ranked second in the country.

During the 2022-23 season, Reese helped Kim Mulkey’s squad win its first national championship after she led the SEC in both scoring (23) and rebounding (15.4). Reese became only the fifth player in conference history to lead the league in both scoring and rebounding.

That season, “The Bayou Barbie” also set an NCAA record with 34 double-doubles. That broke former Tiger star Sylvia Fowles’ single-season program record of 19.

For those accomplishments, Reese was named an All-American, the BET Sportswoman of the Year, the Sporting News Athlete of the Year, and the Final Four Most Outstanding Player.

Before arriving at LSU via the Transfer Portal in 2022, Reese played two seasons for the Maryland Terrapins. During the 2021-22 season, she helped lead them to the Sweet 16 in 2022, while also earning All-American honors.

Reese was one of the most highly recruited prospects when she came out of Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland where she helped her team to three straight state titles. Reese was rated the No. 2 overall player in the country in the 2020 class and was named a McDonald’s All-American.
