LSU point guard Javonte Smart and Tulane forward Krystal Freeman locked up The Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Player of the Week honors.
During the final two minutes of regulation against Georgia, Smart hit a pair of key three-pointers with LSU down six to force an eventual overtime, in a game the Tigers won by two points in the extra period.
Smart hit a season-high five three-pointers, en route to a 21-point, six-steal performance.
In Saturday’s game against Ole Miss, Smart scored 17 points and recorded six assists.
Freeman helped Tulane to a pair of American Athletic Conference victories on the road with wins at Houston and Cincinnati. For the week, Freeman went a combined 16-for-25 (64.0 percent) from the floor while averaging 19.0 points and 6.5 rebounds.
Freeman scored 20 points on 10 of 14 shooting from the floor while adding seven rebounds, five steals and an assist against the Cougars.
Freeman capped off the week on Saturday at Cincinnati, going 6-for-11 from the floor with 18 points and six rebounds, one assist, a block and a steal in a 68-49 AAC win.
